OUTLOOK ON THE MOVIE ‘’UZAK’’
WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF RURAL-URBAN MIGRATION
ABSTRACT
Rural-urban migration events have been intensely observed following the period of World War II. Some social scientists who attempted to explain this event in 50s and 60s, interpreted the rural-urban migration within the frame of modernization theory as a tool for the transformation of agricultural society into industrial society and consequently modernization. The emerging of individual which is rational, prospective plan maker, innovative, free of conventional social perspective at social and psychological level, participating and affecting the decision making process of society, and namely the emerging of ‘’ universal modern human’’ had been estimated. On the other hand this transformation and assimilation process was not realized, on the contrary people who migrated from the villages had brought their lifestyles to the cities.
In this study, the chaotic process experienced by the identities of the individuals that are migrated to the city and the perspective of these individuals on the city would be analyzed by semiological methods by use of critical theory over the characters of the movie ‘’Uzak’’.
